Ever since teeth whitening were introduced in late 1980s there have been some great developments which have made the procedure so simple that you need not visit a dentist anymore for whitening your teeth.
Reasons of staining: Several factors contribute to your teeth turning yellow. The major ones are smoking, tea, coffee, alcohol etc. Other kind of staining is tetracycline staining which is quite often brownish or bluish in shade, is very stubborn therefore only laser technique can whiten these kind of stains. In the initial days of staining if whitening toothpaste is used, the staining effect can be greatly reduced.
Is teeth whitening safe? : Teeth whitening are safe despite the fact that some side effects are noticed in the initial days of whitening sessions. Whitening with laser technology is done by professional dentist and the whitening gel used in the procedure contains up to 35% hydrogen peroxide. This solution is applied on the teeth and then light is used to accelerate the process of whitening. The same method is used in home teeth whitening kits as well but no light is used therefore the process needs to be repeated many times for achieving the desired level of whiteness. Laser technique and home teeth whitening kit both have the same result and are the safest method of whitening.
How long does the result last? Teeth whitening effects are long lasting .People usually prefer to go for touch ups every 6 -7 months even though it is not required so frequently.
There are reports of people who have maintained the whiteness level up to 7 years after the laser treatment. However these are rare cases .In general, the results last for a year or so.
By and large the teeth whitening products are safe and the most convenient method to have a set of shining teeth. As it is more of a cosmetic procedure than a treatment, anyone can go for it unless he/she is suffering from other teeth related ailment.
