In the last decade teeth whitening has become a fad among youngsters and older generation alike. In fact the kind of life style we lead and the food we eat is responsible a lot for the growing yellow shade on our teeth.
The daily brushing with toothpaste is not enough for maintaining a sparkling set of teeth. This is the reason teeth whitening has caught on very quickly. Way back in 80s when teeth whitening were introduced, it used to be complex procedure and required too many visits to the dentist office.
The procedure involved having the dentist make a mold of your teeth and jaws which usually took 3 days back then. In the second phase of teeth whitening the mold was filled with a whitening gel called carbamide peroxide. The patient had to be sitting in dentist’s office for the recommended period, i.e. almost 1 to 4 hours depending upon the severity of yellowness and the whitening solution.
Moreover, once the procedure was complete, eating very cold or hot food was prohibited for a few days. The same procedure was repeated many times in the month unless the desired level of whiteness was achieved.
This kind of teeth whitening which was known as teeth bleaching in those days was inconvenient and was affordable only by rich people. Now the same procedure can be performed at home, that too without any one’s help. The teeth whitening I am talking about is quite easy and simpler than it used to be, but the basic procedure remains the same.
Normally you get a teeth whitening kit that contains everything like a teeth mold which fits everyone or can be molded for every set of teeth, a whitening gel and an instruction book or a DVD that demonstrates how to use the kits.
The whitening effect of this procedure is as good as that of professional teeth whitening. Moreover, as it is affordable by everyone the demand for this kind of whitening is rising day by day.
